Bringing a custom product from a concept to a tangible item requires meticulous planning, precise execution, and rigorous quality control. Today, we’re pulling back the curtain on the production process for our stylish hand mirror with a flowing glitter feature. This blog will outline each manufacturing step and the corresponding quality checks that ensure every mirror meets our high standards.
Here’s a quick recap of the product specifications we’ll be working with:
Phase 1: Sourcing and Incoming Quality Control (IQC)
Before production begins, all raw materials are sourced and inspected.
Component Sourcing: We procure the 12cm glass mirrors, custom-mixed ABS pellets in transparent, the glitter, and the custom-designed sequins.
Ink Preparation: Specific printing inks (black, white) are prepared for the pad printing process.
IQC Checks:
Mirror: Check for diameter accuracy, clarity, and any chips or scratches.
ABS Materials: Confirm color match against Pantone code for each component and material certificates.
Glitter & Sequins: Verify color for glitter, laser silver for sequins and dimensions of custom sequins using calipers.
Artwork Approval: All provided print files (cityscape, “Legal Lines,” new left-side artwork) are confirmed against the sealed sample for accuracy before creating printing clichés.
Phase 2: The Manufacturing Process
Step 1: Injection Molding
The transparent, light purple, and black ABS pellets are injection-molded into their respective parts:

Quality Check: We perform a First Article Inspection (FAI) on the first pieces off the mold. We check dimensions (especially the 42mm shell length), weight, surface finish for imperfections (sink marks, flow lines), and color consistency.
Step 2: Pad Printing
This is a multi-stage process where designs are applied to the molded parts.
Front Panel: The black cityscape pattern is printed onto the light purple panel.
Flow Sand Shell: The black “S somethinc” text is printed on the transparent shell.
Handle/Frame: The white “Legal Lines” text is printed on both sides. Crucially, the right side matches the sealed sample, while the left side uses the new artwork file.
Quality Check: Each print is checked for registration (alignment), clarity, color opacity, and the absence of smudging. A dedicated supervisor compares the right-side print directly to the sealed sample.
Step 3: Glitter and Sequins Assembly
The flow sand shell is filled.
The custom bat and ‘S’ sequins are counted (approx. 20 of each) and added to the shell.
The fine light purple glitter is added in the precise quantity specified by the sample.
The shell is then sealed ultrasonically to prevent leakage.
Quality Check: This is a visual and functional check. We verify the type, quantity, and color of sequins and glitter. The sealed chamber is shaken to ensure smooth flow and that no moisture is trapped inside.
Step 4: Final Assembly
The 12cm glass mirror is carefully placed into the black frame.
The printed front panel is aligned and fixed onto the frame.
The filled flow sand shell is attached to the back of the mirror assembly, completing the product.
Quality Check: We check the alignment of all components, ensure the mirror is secure and free of fingerprints or dust, and confirm that the final product has a sturdy construction without loose parts.
Phase 3: Final Quality Assurance (FQA) and Packaging
Every single finished mirror undergoes a final inspection.
Visual Inspection: Overall aesthetics, print quality, and color matching.
Functional Test: The flow of glitter and sequins is tested again.
Measurement Verification: Random units are measured to ensure compliance with all dimensional specs.
Sample Comparison: The final product is held side-by-side with the approved sealed sample to ensure it is identical in all aspects, except for the updated left-side print artwork.
Only after passing all these checks is the product approved for packaging and shipment.
